SPECIALIST ‘BLUE PLANET’ COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANCY SET TO MAKE WAVES WITH NEW SENIOR TEAM AND REBRAND AS ‘CAUSE AND EFFECT’ AGENCY
17 June, 2025
Mindfully Wired, a specialist, Bristol-based environmental and sustainability communications consultancy, has re-launched with a refreshed ‘cause and effect’ agency proposition and a newly bolstered senior leadership team.
Founded by Katrina Ryan just over a decade ago, Mindfully Wired’s roots are in the marine conservation, fisheries and sustainable seafood world. With Ryan at the helm, the agency has established itself as one of the UK’s leading blue planet comms agencies. The team delivers mission-led communications that drive real-world impact across a broad range of issues including promoting traceability in supply chains, supporting British coastal communities, driving understanding of climate impacts on the ocean and working towards more sustainable fishing practices globally.
The agency hired its first Managing Director – ex-Porter Novelli Board Director and experienced food marketer – Kathryn Martino, in March 2024. Since then, it has made three further senior appointments. Ex-Porter Novelli Directors, Charlie de Mierre and Natalie Greig join as Head of Creative Services and Head of Campaigns & Advocacy respectively, and Charlotte Browne joined the team earlier this year as Head of Science & Policy from a senior position at leading charity, the Marine Conservation Society. The agency is on track to report a tenth consecutive year of growth.
Propelled by a mission to do the right thing better, this next chapter for the business is built on a signature mix of scientific expertise and deep knowledge of sector-based issues – that sits within the team – and creative earned-first storytelling designed to shift hearts, minds and systems.
Founder Director, Katrina Ryan said: “Mindfully Wired has never been a typical PR agency. Creating a comms agency was never the mission; I wanted to work with organisations and individuals driven to make positive change for people and planet and be able to truly serve them with a team of advisers who mirrored the make-up of their teams – but brought a valuable outside perspective and hallmark creative flair. Typically, our clients skew towards the academic and scientific, with little access to in-house comms expertise or huge branding budgets, so Mindfully Wired was built to be able to deliver what we call ‘inside-out knowledge, outside-in thinking’.”
Today, the agency’s refreshed market offering reflects its evolving role in helping clients, who are working to solve big environmental, social and sustainability challenges, deliver real impact – at a time that calls for collective action at scale.
Managing Director, Kathryn Martino said: “We’ve reached a critical juncture where progress in tackling the big issues our clients care about means breaking down even more barriers. Understanding those issues – I mean really understanding them – is key to this. With our blended team of policy experts, scientists, academic researchers, PR and creatives, we know how to take the science – from a place of really understanding the science and the wider context – and translate this into culturally relevant creative campaigns that simplify the complexity and drive action.”
The agency’s client list includes an array of government departments, NGOs and sector bodies such as Defra, Cefas, The World Economic Forum, the Marine Stewardship Council, WWF, RSPB and The Environment Agency. Mindfully Wired’s work is broad, incorporating political and wider stakeholder engagement, campaigning and advocacy, branding, design and events.
With a unique team of policy experts, scientists, environmentalists and marketing, PR and branding experts, the company boasts unrivalled experience in marine sustainability as well as partnering with international and local organisations on broader issues impacting climate, communities, food systems and futures.
