Championing collaboration with fishermen to find the most workable ways to reduce accidental capture of vulnerable marine animals
Clean Catch brings together the fishing industry, scientists, environmental groups, policymakers, regulators, and technology providers. The aim? To develop methods and spread knowledge that can enable the monitoring and mitigation of sensitive species bycatch, while letting fishermen get on with their livelihoods.
We’ve provided strategic stakeholder engagement and communications to the programme since its start, from governance meetings to digestible reports, to conference appearances, to the creation of a one-of-a-kind online hub showcasing tried-and-tested bycatch mitigation measures.
Our ability to create collaborative, inclusive, and empowering spaces shone at Clean Catch’s ‘Hauling Up Solutions 2’, a three-day workshop we ran with fishermen and other experts from the UK and across the globe. Participants together produced recommendations for how the UK can best achieve its ambitions on reducing bycatch – recommendations that we and a wider consortium team are now working to make a reality in the latest phase of Clean Catch.
